Oh, yes, I know this scene well. I worked in Boston City Hall back in the late 1960s when it first opened. It was thought to be an architectural tour de force at the time (although pretty gloomy inside), but over the years the nearly universal evaluation seems to be "terribly ugly," like your first commenter. I have stopped defending it.

it was one of the first things we saw when arriving in boston, and we thought "oh my... is this boston?!"

it reminds me very much of an east-germany building..
It certainly is fitting that this style of design is called Brutalist.
